Fazenda set to re-open in Birmingham after deal struck with landlord

The new owners behind the Fazenda brand have confirmed the restaurant is set to return to Colmore Row in Birmingham, reopening with the rest of the hospitality industry in May after a deal was struck with existing landlord

Parent company, Southern Winds Group had originally secured 243 jobs when acquiring the Fazenda brand and its assets in early March, with the reopening of the Birmingham restaurant taking the total number of jobs saved to 286.

Reservations are now open for bookings from 19th May onwards.

In a previous statement, managing director Tomás Maunier had promised a return to the city after announcing the closure of the Birmingham restaurant “following failure to reach the necessary agreements”.

Maunier said: “It’s been an extremely tough few weeks, though we are delighted beyond words to have finally reached an agreement with the landlord and to be able to retain the jobs of our Birmingham team. Our priority as a business has been to save as many jobs as possible, so today is a day of huge celebration – one of those moments that makes you really happy as a business leader.

“Before the pandemic hit, the restaurant was trading exceptionally well and the team we have built has made a big impression on the people of Birmingham. The level of support and expression of disappointment at the closure news from both the business and wider community was incredible. That’s why we knew we would have to return one way or another. We can’t wait to reopen our doors and give people the Fazenda experience that they know and love.”

Terence Langley, chief executive of Southern Winds Group said: “We’ve worked hard to reach a conclusive agreement through a lot of negotiation. While it’s disappointing that we didn’t manage to reach agreements earlier, we are thrilled to have secured the jobs of our Birmingham team.

“Colmore Row is the perfect location for Fazenda and is an area that continues to thrive with some exceptional new additions such as the Grand Hotel. To be able to return to the place where we have cemented our roots is the best possible outcome.'”

Fazenda says it will honour any gift vouchers that have been previously purchased and will be valid for 12 months from the date of reopening.
