Jobs created by launch of Brindleyplace restaurant

Up to 20 jobs will be created when a new Tex-Mex restaurant opens in Brindleyplace in the Westside district of Birmingham city centre.

PERIOS, which will seat between 100 and 110 diners a time, will provide classic Mexican dishes such as tacos, burritos, nachos, as well as burgers and chicken.

The 3,150 sq ft restaurant is expected to open this summer on a canalside setting at The Water’s Edge that was formerly occupied by the Handmade Burger Co.

Sharath Sundar, operations manager at PERIOS, said: “PERIOS has been a great success for many years in Shirley, and we felt now was the time to expand our services and bring our taste of Latin America to Birmingham city centre for the first time.

“We felt Brindleyplace was the perfect step for our next location. Birmingham’s famous canal network is on our doorstep and our new space provides us the opportunity to serve fantastic food and drinks in a fun, laid-back atmosphere all year round.”

He added: “Brindleyplace is a real happening place and we are looking to create a real vibe with our authentic Tex-Mex experience. PERIOS will be a fusion of burgers and burritos, nachos and tacos.

“We will employ between 15 and 20 staff and provide seating for 100 to 110 customers.”

The anticipated summer opening of PERIOS in Brindleyplace is dependent on Covid-19 restrictions.

Stacey Muir, marketing and events executive at Brindleyplace, said: “PERIOS will be a fantastic addition to Brindleyplace’s varied food and drink offering and will provide an exceptional new experience for those who work and visit the estate.

“Committing to opening at Brindleyplace during these uncertain times shows a great deal of confidence in the estate as a destination where independent businesses working within the leisure sector can thrive in the future.”

Mike Olley, general manager of Westside BID, said: “This is great news and we are looking forward to welcoming the new PERIOS venue and their staff to our business community.

“It’s always sad when venues close, and COVID-19 has caused some of this across the city, but it’s also so encouraging to see other businesses expand.

“There are great spaces here on Westside and we’re looking forward to a bustling hospitality sector again once we fully emerge from lockdown.”
