West Midlands Queen’s Award winners revealed

Some 17 companies from across the West Midlands have received a Queen’s Award for Enterprise.

Now in their 55th year, the Queen’s Awards for Enterprise are the most prestigious business awards in the country which recognise outstanding achievements by UK businesses in four categories: innovation, international trade, sustainable development and promoting opportunity through social mobility.

The awards last for five years and are judged by independent panels based on recommendations. They are then passed to the Prime Minister’s advisory committee, who make the final recommendation to Her Majesty the Queen.

Making this year’s list are:

In the International Trade category: Stoke-based recruitment firm LA International Computer Consultants; Payara, a Malvern micro-multinational open source software company; Warwick-based 3P Innovation, which designs and manufactures advanced machinery; Coventry-based Embed, which specialises in electronics and embedded software; Birmingham corporate learning and development company GuyKat Solutions; outdoor leisure product supplier OLPRO, based in Worcester; Aviramp, the Telford company which designs, manufactures and installs bespoke access ramps; Leominster-based M Lloyd Engineering, which designs and makes excavator mounted screening machinery; Perinatal Institute, the Birmingham-based social enterprise whose mission is to improve the quality and safety of maternity care; KMB Shipping Group, the Dudley freight forwarding company; Scanning Pens, the Telford firm which provides reading support to students with reading difficulties; and Coventry-based Mirius, which manufactures and supplies cleaning liquids, powders and tablets for healthcare cleaning and hygiene of the veterinary, human and agri-food industries

In the Innovation category: Shropshire-based Reconomy, which has a digital commissioning platform that connects waste producers with waste management provider; and Fibex, the Kidderminster company which has developed the Trenchlite system, a product designed for the construction industry to improve upon the existing solutions to laying underground cabling trenches by eradicating the use of concrete in the building process

In the Promoting Opportunity category: YMCA North Staffordshire; and Wellington-based charity Laundau.

In the Sustainable Development category: Laundry Efficiency, based in Cannock.
