BGF departs in takeover of travel management company

Click Travel

Birmingham-based Click Travel has been bought by travel management group TravelPerk in a deal which sees the exit of investor BGF.

The company employs 150 people and was one of the fastest-growing travel management companies with its platform used by 2,000 business clients.

Click Travel was founded in 1999 by brothers Simon McLean and James McLean. The company manages millions of business travel bookings a year for a wide variety of businesses as well as offering its proprietary technology platform, travel.cloud, on a software-as-a-service basis for SMEs and businesses.

James McLean, chief executive of Click Travel added: “Today’s acquisition by TravelPerk is a clear validation of our growth ambitions and future plans. We look forward to the next stage with confidence.”

BGF made a multimillion-pound investment in 2018 and has now exited after “a period of rapid growth” for Click Travel.

Gurinder Sunner, head of BGF in the Midlands, said: “BGF’s Birmingham team backed Click Travel in 2018 with a multi-million-pound investment to fast-track growth.

“During this time, the company has asserted its global leadership position as the biggest travel platform in the UK, handling over £300m in business travel for over 2,000 SMB clients.”
