Telford manufacturer is printing its stamp on Europe

Putzbrunn factory, near Munich

Telford’s Protolabs has opened a new 3D printing centre in Putzbrunn near Munich.

The €16m investment into the facility is set to boost the digital manufacturing capacity by 60% with future-oriented technologies, skilled employees and sustainable benefits.

450 people are employed at its UK Headquarters in Telford and the expansion means UK customers can access more than 60 industrial 3D printers offering plastic and metal parts at faster lead times.

Protolabs say it’s also enhanced its commitment to the environment through a range of sustainable features in the design of the Putzbrunn plant. The manufacturer aims to build on its ISO 14001 certification, the international standard that specifies requirements for an effective environmental management system and to save resources whilst reducing its CO2 footprint.

The new location keeps noise emissions below 26 decibels, and houses charging facilities for electric and hybrid vehicles in the parking garage, drawing on a mixture of green energy.

Bjoern Klaas, Vice President and Managing Director of Protolabs Europe said: “The opening of the 3D printing centre illustrates our long-term corporate strategy, which is geared towards fast-evolving technologies, rapidly shifting markets, environmental considerations and world-class employees.

“In doing so, we want to fulfil our social responsibility, as well as deliver an unparalleled service through digital manufacturing. This approach enables our customers to more rapidly develop their products, go to market faster, reduce manufacturing costs and achieve a flexible supply chain throughout the entire product lifecycle.”
