Grand Marquee to replace Pavilion Suite

WORK on the £30m redevelopment of Edgbaston cricket ground is not going to prevent Warwickshire County Cricket Club from leveraging value from the venue.

The famous ground has been a popular banqueting, conference and exhibition venue and despite the loss of the old Pavilion Suite, the club is keen for this to continue.

Such is the value of these events to the club that it cannot afford to lose the business, especially in the current climate.

Therefore, from March 1 a new state-of-the-art event facility will be opened for business.

The Grand Marquee, as the facility will be officially called, will be capable of accommodating up to 1,000 people for conferences and 700 for banqueting.

The marquee will feature a private reception area with a 36ft bar, together with a 5m x 5m outside pagoda. The space will be flexible and have the capability to break down into smaller areas if and when required.

The club said that as such, the marquee represented an ideal space for any event and was already attracting business.

Zoe’s Place Baby Hospice is organising a Las Vegas Ball in the marquee, in association with Sainsbury’s, with all proceeds going directly towards the new Coventry Hospice.

The hospice fundraisers said they had viewed several venues in the area but they had chosen Edgbaston because of its reputation and prestige.

The marquee will be replaced once the redevelopment of the ground is complete and the new pavilion and members area opened.
