Digital skills training to be aimed at ‘marginalised people’

Technical training will be the first digital skill delivered at Resume Foundation’s bootcamps.

In partnership with Coventry University and with funding from the West Midlands Combined Authority (WMCA), the aim is to equip learners with digital skills over the courage of a flexible 16-week programme, which includes eight weeks of technical training by Coventry University.

In addition, learners will embark on a four-week industry placement, help with interviews and have a mentor. There will be monthly employer briefings where 15-20 SME employers will provide career guidance, networking opportunities and interview advice.

Resume Foundation is a charity that tackles issues regarding employment and opportunity for ‘marginalised people’ including the over-50’s, women, those returning to work, ex-offenders and any other barriers people may face going into work.

Those who are unemployed, seeking a career change or employed people looking to level up their skills will also be supported.

At the end of the programme, those who wish to set up their own business have the chance to join the Bootcamp Entrepreneurs Club. Participants will have additional employability training including CV workshops, job applications and interview support throughout the scheme.

Michael Corrigan, CEO of the Resume Foundation, said: “The excellent technical courses being operated by Coventry University will provide superb training for our learners. This will help to ensure they develop into candidates who can then apply for jobs in the burgeoning digital skills sector.”
