3,000 more jobs announced on HS2 construction

An additional 3,000 jobs have been announced in the West Midlands thanks to the construction of HS2.

Balfour Beatty VINCI welcomed West Midlands Mayor Andy Street to its skills academy yesterday (Wednesday 23rd) for the announcement.

The academy at South and City College, Bordesley Green is within one of Birmingham’s most deprived wards.

With no previous experience or skills required, students typically complete bespoke construction training programmes in just 4-6 weeks, enabling them to progress onto a paid work trial. On completion, candidates are job matched to roles where they begin their career on HS2.

Balfour Beaty VINCI estimates it will create 7,000 jobs to deliver its construction on HS2 alone. For the West Midlands, it is estimated that the whole construction of HS2 will generate around 10,000 jobs from now until 2028.
