60-apartment scheme on former pub site hits the market

The site of a former pub on West Bromwich High Street with plans approved to build 60 apartments has come on the market for offers over £1.5m.

Property agency Bond Wolfe is marketing the scheme, which has secured full planning consent for the development of a nine-storey building comprising 60 apartments and one ground floor commercial unit.

The old Star & Garter pub once stood on the corner site, which has now been cleared and secured planning permission from Sandwell Council earlier this year.

James Mattin, managing director agency at Birmingham-based Bond Wolfe, said: “We are delighted to have brought this significant development opportunity to the market.

“The local council has approved plans for a landmark building at 252 Duchess Parade, a high quality and sustainable mixed-use development on the corner of the pedestrianised High Street and West Bromwich Ringway.

“This is a highly attractive scheme, effectively ‘shovel-ready’, and will be of considerable interest to a wide range of residential developers.”

The approved scheme involves a 2,623 sq ft retail unit on the ground floor and 60 apartments – 29 single bedroom, two person apartments; 27 two bedroom apartments for up to three people and four two bedroom apartments suitable for up to four people.

The gross floorspace of the residential area of the building will be 35,831 sq ft.
