‘Booze and ball games’ brand eyes another Birmingham venue

Roxy Ball Room looks set to open another Birmingham venue – this time at 1 Victoria Square.

The brand, which specialises in “booze and ball games”, already has an outlet in Digbeth, but has now submitted a licensing application to open at the city centre location in what is the former Kongs venue, which closed in August 2020 citing the pandemic and the ongoing disruption of the tram works as the reason for its failure.

Last year, we reported that regional leisure operator Roxy Ball Room looked set to open a second Birmingham venue in a basement site of the former EasyGym on Corporation Street.

The brainchild of Yorkshire-born brothers Matt and Ben Jones, Roxy Ball Room has seen a rapid expansion since opening its first bar in Leeds in 2013. The firm aims to open two new sites a year.

The Victoria Square site would be the company’s 12th. It also has venues in Leeds, Liverpool, Nottingham and Manchester.

In 2020, parent company Roxy Leisure received a £7.5m investment from private equity firm Foresight Group.
