Sky Blues home fixtures to resume following extensive pitch work

Coventry City’s home fixtures are set to resume at the Coventry Building Society (CBS) Arena, following improvements made to the pitch.

The Sky Blues were forced to moved its Carabao Cup game at the beginning of August against Bristol City to Burton Albion’s Pirelli Stadium after the pitch at the Arena was deemed unplayable and unsafe.

New synthetic fibres have been stitched into the ground throughout the pitch. These new fibres will give increased stability to the existing structure and then allow for better growth now and in the future.

Areas which have been more widely damaged have been subjected to extensive and increased maintenance work so they can be fully integrated with the existing pitch.

An assessment from an independent sports turf expert determined the pitch was safe and playable giving the green light for the clubs fixture against Preston North End to take place as scheduled on Wednesday 31 August.

Dave Boddy, Coventry City Chief Executive, said: “This is very pleasing news and we can’t wait until next Wednesday’s game.

“The confirmation that the pitch work has been successful in making the required improvements is what Sky Blues fans have been waiting to hear.

“The Preston match will be just £20 for Adults and with the school holidays also still on in Coventry and good weather expected, it’s a great opportunity for fans to come along and support Mark Robins and the team in our first home game of the campaign.”

The EFL says it will continue to review the circumstances around the postponements of the Huddersfield Town and Wigan Athletic fixtures and will determine the next steps in due course.
