Firefighters tackle major blaze in Hockley Circus

A major fire in Birmingham is this morning under control after crews battled against the blaze for the majority of yesterday evening (September 14).

Shortly after 4.15pm yesterday, West Midlands Fire Service was alerted to a severe fire in the roof of an events hall in Hockley Circus, Birmingham, covering approximately 5,000 sq m of a two-story building.

Some 15 fire engines, four brigade response vehicles, three hydraulic platforms and over 100 fire fighters were in attendance.

In an update at 10.50pm last night, West Midlands Fire Service said that crews continue to make progress on scene, tackling the blaze within the insulation of the roof space. All occupants had been evacuated from the building.

A statement added: Our crews will be in attendance for a considerable amount of time. All known persons are accounted for and our investigation into the cause is underway.”
