Jobs created as builders merchant opens

MKM has opened the doors to its new premises in Bromsgrove, creating 19 jobs.

It is the company’s 100th branch opening in the UK and takes total staff numbers to more than 2500.

Other MKM sites in the region include MKM Birmingham North and MKM Leamington Spa.

Ex-Villa and England striker Dion Dublin officially opened the branch alongside David Kilburn, the joint founder of MKM, Kate Tinsley, MKM’s CEO, and Rob Searl and Malcolm Hawley – the new co-branch directors.

Andy Bennett from The Harry Bennett Foundation (HB9 Foundation)  – a local charity set up in memory of the life of his teenage son, also attended the event. MKM Bromsgrove has pledged its ongoing support to The HB9 Foundation, with Dion presenting the charity with a cheque for £1500 on behalf of MKM.

The store is located at Buntsford Gate Business Park.

Searl said: “We are extremely excited to be opening our doors and were delighted to welcome Dion Dublin, Kevin Ward and the Harry Bennett Foundation down to the branch to kick-off celebrations.

“As a business, our ethos is about providing the highest levels of customer service, by employing local people who have the drive, knowledge, skills and enthusiasm to deliver this from premises built around today’s discerning customer.

“I’m certain that builders, plumbers, electricians, landscapers and other trades people wouldn’t have experienced a branch or level of service like ours before. We look forward to supporting the local community, whatever type of project they are working on.”

Another key part of MKM’s ethos is playing a significant role in the local community, whether this is supporting local charities, sports teams or community projects.

Hawley said: “That’s why it’s important to us to support local good causes. The Harry Bennett Foundation is a charity that is close to the hearts of our community and one that we are proud to support.”
