Birmingham City FC give stadium plan update

Birmingham City Football Club has confirmed that repairs to the lower Kop and Tilton stands will resume during the FIFA World Cup break in November and December.

This phase of work will involve the removal of all pre-cast concrete units from both the Lower Tilton and Lower Kop stands to expose the areas underneath.

Once these units have been removed, the exposed areas will be covered, secured, and made safe to operate, in time for its first fixture back on 17 December 2022.

Birmingham FC said the aim is to resume and complete the remaining repairs immediately after the final home fixture of the season, during the summer break of 2023.

The club has appointed Mace – which specialises in large-scale and major projects such as Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and the Birmingham Commonwealth Games Stadium – to provide project management, cost management and employers agent services.

AFL Architects, who designed Lusail Stadium, Qatar’s World Cup final venue, will work in collaboration with the club on the design aspect of the remedial works, whilst Ramboll will act as the club’s structural and geotechnical engineers.

The main body of work will be undertaken by Buckingham Group who have worked on a number of sporting venues including the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and Brighton’s American Express Community Stadium.
