Worcester Warriors: Rugby could return at Sixways by ‘next season’

Sixways Stadium could see rugby return by next season according to an update from the administrators.

Begbies Traynor was appointed by DCMS as administrators to oversee WRFC Trading Limited.

They say they are hoping to see rugby return next season, with a number of interested parties looking at acquiring the club.

A statement from the administrators said: “We are pleased to confirm that discussions are continuing with a number of interested parties who remain focussed on acquiring Worcester Warriors with a view to re-establishing rugby at The Sixways stadium and developing the first-rate facilities and land around it to support rugby operations.

“We are not yet at a stage to be able to enter into any preferred bidder agreement but expect to continue discussions around this with a view to achieving a sale in the timescale needed for a squad to be built by a purchaser in good time for next season.”

Warriors were put into administration on September 26, leading them to be suspended from all competitions.

Its debts total more than £25m including at least £6m in unpaid tax.
