French fulfilment firm to create hundreds of jobs with Birmingham move

Paris-based Bigblue, a Shopify-like order fulfilment platform, has revealed its expansion into the UK and says it will hire hundreds of staff from the Birmingham area to work at a new warehouse.

The start-up opened its first international office in Madrid in January 2022 but has quickly expanded to the rest of Europe. Bigblue already has over 300 client brands, and will ship four million parcels from three different countries this year.

BigBlue operates a European warehouse and carrier network that uses AI to determine optimal shipping methods. The firm then provides shipping automation, transport optimisation and branded post-purchase communications.

In March 2022, Bigblue raised $15 million in a Series A funding round. The round was led by Runa Capital with LPV as the secondary lead investor and additional participation from existing investor Samaipata.

“Powering independent brands in France since 2018, Bigblue does not simply offer a fulfilment solution that matches Amazon standards – we aim to make it easy for brands to grow online,” said Tim Dumain, co-founder at Bigblue.

The firm has also has committed itself to help make logistics more environmentally friendly. BigBlue’s proprietary technology, for example, optimises transport routes and truck filling, reducing carbon emissions by 25%. In addition, parcels can be delivered via cargo bikes and electric vehicles in major cities, all packaging is plastic-free and recyclable, and the company’s warehouses are Ecocert certified.
