Plans for the 2 Snowhill Plaza development, which would offer 462 build-to-rent homes have now been submitted to Birmingham City Council.

The proposal formed by HUB Group, alongside investment group MARK and Metropolitan Workshop Architects outlines plans for a 47-storey residential tower along Snow Hill Queensway.

The scheme features a mixed-use plinth with shared amenities, a commercial unit facing onto the Queensway, co-working spaces, biodiverse gardens and shared lounges.

Active frontages will be provided by commercial units at the ground level, alongside landscaping, seating and a new walkable connection route from Snow Hill Queensway to Weaman Street to improve the street scene.

Brad Burridge, senior development manager for HUB said: “We are really pleased to have submitted plans for our second project in Birmingham which, if approved, would provide hundreds of design-led homes within a striking landmark building, as well as new green space, opening up this key part of central Birmingham.

“Our aim is for 2 Snowhill Plaza to provide high-quality homes in the midst of one of Birmingham’s busiest commercial districts, giving residents easy access to all that the city has to offer.”

Nick Kemp, senior architect at the Metropolitan Workshop said the team took inspiration from Birmingham’s “bold post-war architectural heritage” naming buildings such as “Alpha Tower by R. Siefert & Partners and Colmore Row by John Madin”.

He also said: “The proposed building would create a valuable new pedestrian connection between Snow Hill and Weaman Street. Our design distributes the internal and external amenity spaces across four different levels of the building to provide residents with easy access to a wide variety of communal functions.”

Between March and August 2022, five pre-application meetings took place with Birmingham City Council and several meetings with surrounding neighbours and stakeholders.
