New premises help put cable-laying firm on course to double turnover

A Redditch civil engineering firm is on course to double its turnover after dramatic growth saw it move to bigger headquarters.

Civil engineering company Davies (Redditch) Ltd was set up by father and son Simon and Luke Davies just three years ago and now employs more than 130 people and operates 50 plus vehicles on projects across the UK.

After hitting turnover of £4m last year, the company is now on track to hit £8-10m this year.

Luke Davies said: “We started out as just the two of us, a van and a digger.

“We specialise in the telecommunications sector, and we saw a major surge in work during Covid, when everyone wanted fibre and broadband.

“Simon’s partner, Dawn Cooke, handles the back office and is now our financial director. As work increased, we starting taking on more staff and after working from home to start with, we moved into offices at the Faraday Business Centre.

“However, we soon outgrew those as we took on more office staff.

“We started looking for additional premises and spotted Unit 22, Dunlop Road, on the Hunt End Industrial Estate in Redditch. John Truslove were the agents and Ian Parker, the joint managing director, was excellent.

“He was really straightforward and helpful and within a couple of weeks we had the keys and were able to move in in December. The premises are excellent, with space for a workshop to repair equipment and keep our fleet of vehicles serviced and on the road.

“That growth has continued, and we are now expanding into work on electric vehicle charging points. We are taking on new people virtually every week to keep up with the workload.

“With our experience of building networks such as Virgin Media, BT, Gigaclear and City Fibre we have built a really strong reputation for our work with existing clients.

“With the way work is continuing to come in, and our strong growth, I wouldn’t be surprised if we have to talk to the John Truslove team again in the future about even bigger premises.”

Ian Parker at John Truslove secured the unit on the Hunt End Industrial Estate on a five year lease for Davies.

He said: “When firms hit a period of major growth they often need to find bigger new premises in a hurry. Our strong relationships with landlords mean we are in a position to move quickly when the need arises.

“The Davies family have built a strong company with an excellent reputation, which means they are winning a lot of work and needed the right premises as a platform for further expansion.

“Simon, Luke and Dawn have forged a strong management team and I am sure we will be working with them in the future as the company’s growth continues.”
