Plans revealed for 64-storey Gun Quarter scheme

Sama Investments have revealed plans to build a 64-storey mixed-use scheme in the Gun Quarter of Birmingham.

Sama bought 1 Lancaster Circus from Birmingham City Council last year after the building was deemed as surplus to requirements office space.

Now, Sama says it wants to turn council offices into a “memorable place to live, work, stay, study and visit” and is calling the scheme Perryian Works.

Long-term, plans for the areainclude the removal of the A38 flyover, where 1 Lancaster Circus is located, resulting in improved connectivity and green spaces for the area and city.

1 Lancaster Circus was previously home to the famous, but now defunct, Perry & Co, where pens, chains and bicycles were all produced and sold worldwide.

A statement from Sama said: “Each section of this historic site that Sama develops will reflect elements of this vital heritage. Sama’s project involves creating a new iconic landmark for this central location and our team have dipped into the site’s history to give the development its name: Perryian Works.”

Sama’s partners on the scheme include Stride Treglow and Plan Associates. The scheme is still in the pre-application phase,
