Engineering firm snaps up consultancy to boost net-zero ambitions

Wolverhampton engineering firm Wintech has acquired a building services engineering consultancy, as it commits to working towards net-zero operations.

The purchase of Northamptonshire’s AVUS will not only enhance its core solutions in façade engineering and design consultancy services, but also expand its range of service offerings, including sustainability, façade access & maintenance and fire engineering expertise.

The addition of AVUS, which was established in 2003 from the design wing of a MEP contracting company, means Wintech has a workforce of more than 100 staff. The company aligns with Wintech’s ambition to support the nations’ net zero building transformation goals and prepare the business for the challenges ahead.

A building’s façade is its primary energy modifier and improved energy efficiency during refurbishment must be MEP led with support from façade specialists. With AVUS’ specialised expertise, Wintech says it is well positioned to support the UK’s drive towards improved energy efficiency in the built environment.

Paul Savidge, Wintech’s managing director stated: “We appreciate there’s a great challenge ahead to ensure all buildings, both refurbished and newbuild, can deliver on net zero targets. As an industry we owe it to our communities to be proactive and make a real difference with actions, not words. This acquisition is an essential part of that process toward making a significant and lasting difference”.

AVUS’ managing director, Martin Fern, made the decision to sell the business as part of his longer-term retirement plans, paving the way for Principal Engineer Sarah Southgate to take on the leadership role and oversee Wintech’s M&E division.

Sarah Southgate said: “This is an exciting time for AVUS. The support and growth opportunities provided by Wintech will enable us to continue to support our existing clients whilst greatly expanding our sustainability offering.

“We are thrilled to join forces with Wintech and combine their extensive resources with our specialised knowledge in M&E, to deliver innovative and sustainable solutions that will make a tangible impact in creating energy-efficient buildings for a greener future.

“This move not only enhances our capabilities but also signifies our shared commitment to proactive action and making a real difference in the industry and the communities we serve.”
