Kier secures Birmingham hospitals deal
Kier has been appointed by the University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Trust (UHB) to transform its estate through a three-year programme of capital works.
The construction firm will work alongside UHB and its estate comprising Good Hope Hospital, Heartlands Hospital, Queen Elizabeth Hospital, and Solihull Hospital and the development of the Princess of Wales Maternity Unit at Heartlands Hospital.
Following on from Kier’s work on the £97m Heartlands treatment centre, the firm will enhance and upgrade UHB’s facilities such as upgrading inpatient accommodation and major medical equipment as well as ongoing minor works and maintenance.
At the Princess of Wales Maternity Unit, Kier will develop the Maternity Assessment Centre, scanning facilities, induction suite, alterations to delivery rooms and a new bereavement zone.
Existing inpatient ward facilities will be enhanced to include creation of ensuite facilities, replacement fire doors, fire stopping works, life refurbishments and improved access to Plant Rooms.

University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust says it aims to invest in capital development that enables it to deliver its services to the highest possible standard.
