People: Harris Lamb; Debrett’s Private Finance

Harris Lamb has expanded its environmental consultancy department with the appointment of a graduate ecologist.

Tim Jones has joined the business further to achieving a Masters degree in Applied Marine Science from the University of Plymouth; a qualification he studied after securing a first-class Honours degree in Environmental Sciences from the University of East Anglia.

Dr Holly Smith, director, said: “Since Harris Lamb formed its Environmental Department in 2018, the team has expanded quickly, and provides a diverse range of services for the business’ clientele which are in increasing demand.

“Tim is a fantastic fit for our department: not only has he achieved excellent academic credentials to help develop our offering, but he also brings with him extensive GIS and wildlife survey experience, including voluntary conservation positions in Greece and Madagascar and time spent working as a Research Assistant in a marine conservation producing a report for DEFRA on blue carbon, so he has a huge amount of experience and insight to share with us.

“He is extremely committed to environmental projects on every level, and is proving a great asset to the business,” she added.

Jones said: “I have always been passionate about ecology, and have invested a lot of time in advancing my knowledge and skills to benefit the natural environment, so I am delighted to now be able to do what I love in a professional capacity.

“My voluntary contributions to date have included working with the Madagascar Research and Conservation Institute in Nosy Komba, where I studied the diversity of animal, reptile and bird species, and identified changes in forest dynamics, populations, habitat health and potential localised threats to help protect the highly threatened Sambirano forests, and in Lixouri, Greece, where I carried out beach surveys, nest protection and turtle tracking as part of a critical conservation project to protect the Loggerhead sea turtle.”

“Being able to work alongside an experienced and dedicated team is a fantastic opportunity to utilise and expand my skills, and I’m excited to be playing a part in increasing environmental awareness and delivering important ecological projects to support Harris Lamb’s commercial and residential clients,” he added.
