Birmingham construction firm hit with winding up petition by HMRC

A Colmore Tang Construction subsidiary is the subject of a winding-up petition from HMRC.

Colmore Tang Projects, however, told TheBusinessDesk.com that it was “business as usual”.

A spokesperson for the company told TheBusinessDesk.com: “We want to assure our stakeholders, clients and partners that our business activities are continuing as usual.

“We are actively engaged with our creditor to resolve the current issue and are working closely to find a solution. We are confident that this matter will be resolved swiftly.”

Colmore Tang Construction is behind major West Midlands developments such as Seven Capital’s flagship St Martin’s Place on Broad Street, St. George’s Urban Village in the Jewellery Quarter, Granville Lofts, The Quadrant, and The Landmark in Dudley.

The firm has worked closely with SevenCapital and made its 220,000 sq ft Broadway development on Five Ways Colmore Tang’s headquarters in 2016.

Results to the end of May 2022 revealed a pre-tax loss of £1.2m along with current liabilities exceeding current assets by £3.4m.

A HMRC spokesperson said whilst it cannot comment on specific businesses due to the law around taxpayer confidentiality, “[We] take a supportive approach to dealing with customers who have tax debts, working with them to find the best possible solution based on their financial circumstances.”
