Construction firm secures £14m first contract after Midlands expansion

Caddick Construction Group has secured a contract to build the next phase of Port Loop, a joint venture developed by Urban Splash and Places for People in Birmingham.

The deal marks Caddick’s inaugural project in the Midlands following its expansion into the region.

The £14m contract involves constructing Phase 2B of the Port Loop, comprising 58 apartments within the 43-acre island community adjacent to the Birmingham Canal.

£13m has been invested by the West Midlands Combined Authority, to support the delivery of the homes. The JV is also moving forward with a further 500 new homes having applied for planning for the next phases. Future proposals include a 31 house-scheme designed by shedkm, plus a phase of 331 apartments designed by Birmingham architect Howells – a phase which will feature a new public park and residential green spaces.

Caddick’s appointment as the main contractor aligns with the recent hiring of Ray O’Sullivan as Regional Director for the Midlands and the establishment of new premises at Northspring on Temple Street earlier this year.

Paul Dodsworth, Caddick Construction group managing director, said: “Ray joined our business in July and we have hit the ground running, building an established regional team and securing new premises to serve clients across the Midlands. Our appointment to the next phase of Port Loop is another stride forward in our plans to grow in the Midlands, and is a mark of the confidence the partners have in our new but extremely capable and expert team.”

Adam Willetts, project director at Port Loop, said: “We are delighted to be moving forward with Caddick as our contracting partner to bring this next phase of Port Loop to life. Their expertise will help us deliver more much-needed design-led homes for Birmingham and give more people a chance to live in this growing new canalside neighbourhood.”
