New 332,000 sq ft shed to create 250 jobs

A logistics provider to the food industry has taken occupancy of a 332,000 sq ft warehouse in Newcastle-under-Lyme.

Boughey Distribution is set to create 250 jobs to service the facility at Lymedale Business Park, adding to its current workforce of 850 staff.

The warehouse, which has been secured on a 15-year lease from Aver Property, will accommodate 52,000 pallets, increasing its overall storage capacity to 187,000 pallet spaces to support customer growth as well as the acquisition of new business.

It adds to existing operations at a purpose-built 48-acre site near Nantwich, and a 240,000 sq ft warehouse in Crewe.

Initial capital expenditure is expected to be around £8.5m and will be backed by Boughey’s parent firm, NWF Group.

Managing director Angela Carus said: “We have been on the look-out for suitable additional warehouse capacity for some time and are very fortunate to have sealed a deal with Aver Property. The warehouse is of the highest specification and within easy reach of our two existing sites in Wardle and Crewe.

“Demand for space from our existing customers and newly acquired business is on the increase which is great news for us.

“Our industry is constantly evolving and requires quick reactions and total flexibility for customers. For example, the biggest challenge during 2023 was managing unpredictable retail demands because of the current cost-of-living crisis and poor summer weather which both affected sales for our customers.

“This instability had a knock-on effect on customer stockholdings which created pressure on warehouse space”.

The installation and fit-out of the warehouse will commence immediately. Initial stock is anticipated to arrive at the end of March/early April and the warehouse will be fully operational by this Autumn.
