Arcade group launches new experience in Birmingham
NQ64, the arcade bar group, is set to launch its adults-only Laser Quest experience on February 16, expanding from its Digbeth-based Birmingham location.
The group invites guests to engage in an ‘alien invasion’ themed game in groups of up to 16. Taking inspiration from the original N64 experience, the arena will showcase neon graffiti with a ‘dystopian future’ theme, complemented by a cocktail menu.
To accommodate the 2,750 sq ft Laser Quest arena, the Digbeth site will undergo refurbishment from February 4 to 8, during which additional seating, a photo booth, extra games, and an expanded wrap-around bar will be added for guests.
NQ64 is celebrated as a ‘purveyor of retro gaming,’ featuring nostalgic arcades and consoles from around the world, including favourites like Pac-Man, Mario Kart, Guitar Hero, Time Crisis, Point Blank, and a console lineup including SNES, MegaDrive, Gamecube, Xbox, and PlayStation.
Matt Robson, co-founder of NQ64, said, “Since launching the original NQ64 back in 2019, we’ve cracked on and are now proud to have 11 sites around the UK. We are constantly trying to evolve our offering, experimenting with new games, lighting and bar design. This year saw us open our second London site in Shoreditch, our biggest yet with more games than ever, a huge bar, tons of seating and bookable spaces, and a dedicated kitchen, a first for us.
“We are also returning to existing sites and looking to improve the offering, most recently moving our original Northern Quarter site to a much bigger space over the road, with a large external terrace which is covered and heated enabling us to use it all year round. NQ64 Digbeth was our third NQ64 and is the next site to be reworked. We think Laser Quest is a mega addition to our offering and has been in the pipeline for a while and will hopefully be the first of many more to come!”
