Alexander Stadium

Construction and civil engineering contractor McLaughlin & Harvey has opened a new Birmingham office as it looks to expand in Central England.

The new office adds to the 170-year-old firm’s strong presence across Belfast, Glasgow, London, Birmingham and Bristol, employing more than 800 staff.

With a heritage spanning over 170 years, McLaughlin & Harvey has a strong presence across the UK and Ireland, employing over 800 people and maintaining offices in Belfast, Glasgow, London, Birmingham, and Bristol.

Recent projects in the Midlands include the redevelopment of Alexander Stadium in Birmingham ahead of the Commonwealth Games, the refurbishment and remodel of Coventry University’s Maurice Foss building and the construction of a four-storey teaching facility.

The team’s work with Alexander Stadium has continued post-Games, with McLaughlin & Harvey transforming the stadium’s East and West Stands into state-of-the-art teaching and learning facilities for Birmingham City University’s Sports Sciences department.

Completed in just seven months, the £4.7m project has redefined the stadium as a dual-purpose venue for athletic excellence and academic innovation.

Two senior hires have been made with Simon Humphrey and Paul Davenport appointed as project directors. Both bring a wealth of experience from their previous leadership roles in renowned construction firms. Humphrey has more than 28 years of experience in construction, with roles at Bowmore & Kirkland and Wates, whilst Davenport brings 36 years of experience in several high-profile construction companies including Balfour Beatty and Galliford Try.

There’s been a surge in demand for McLaughlin & Harvey’s advanced manufacturing services, which forms a key driver of growth throughout 2024. The company has provided more than 7m sq ft of industrial space nationwide to high-profile clients including GSK, UPS and Segro.

John Carlin, regional director at McLaughlin & Harvey, said: “We are dedicated to expanding our presence in central England with several projects underway across key regional developments. With a history of delivering high-profile developments across the region, we remain committed to supporting businesses and local communities through our construction and civil engineering expertise.”
