Birmingham office block to undergo £4.5m refurbishment

A Birmingham city centre office block is undergoing a £4.5m refurbishment.
The work at Centre City, located at the corner of Hill Street and Smallbrook Queensway, includes new amenities such as a living wall and fitness facilities.
For the first time, the 20-storey building will offer co-working and pay-as-you-go desk space alongside its existing leased offices.
Additional features will include a new café, a lounge, a contemplation room, and a bike storage area. The ground floor and central atrium will also be renovated.
Retrofitting measures will introduce air conditioning in the new basement gym, air-quality sensors in reception and the atrium and a new air source heat pump for the building’s water supply.
Built in the 1960s, Centre City spans 210,000 sq ft and currently houses tenants such as the Ministry of Justice, Citizens Advice and Hitachi.
The complex is owned by Bruntwood SciTech, which also owns other prominent Birmingham buildings like Mclaren, Cornwall Buildings, and Innovation Birmingham near Aston University.
The project is slated for completion by January and may lead to the building being renamed, according to its landlord.
