Developer to spearhead 750 home regeneration in Coventry

Citizen Housing has appointed The Hill Group as its delivery partner for the major regeneration of Spon End in Coventry.
The housebuilder and regeneration specialist will develop 750 homes for the housing association, with a minimum of 30% classed as affordable.
Improvements will also be made to the public realm and open green space, including access to the River Sherbourne that runs through the area.
A planning application will be submitted to Coventry City Council later this summer, and if approved, Hill will begin the demolition of Kerry House, Milestone House, and Trafalgar House in autumn 2024, with building work on the first phase due to begin in spring 2025.
Kevin Roach, director of regeneration services at Citizen Housing said: “The Hill Group has been chosen because of their vast experience in the sector for building homes, particularly high-rise buildings, that are of a high quality but more importantly because of their strong reputation of working with communities to successfully regenerate and transform the area.
“The regeneration of Spon End is a major project for us, and it will improve the area of Spon End for our customers. We have consulted with our customers throughout the process, and they have told us what is important to them. This is why we have prioritised making the improvements to the green spaces and making the River Sherbourne accessible for the local community at the very heart of our proposals to transform the area.
“At Citizen we want to build homes and an environment that meet the needs of our region, and this includes demolishing homes that are no longer fit for purpose. We will also build properties that are warmer, more comfortable and meet our customers’ needs.”
Regional managing director for Hill Andy Fancy said: “We’re delighted to be appointed to deliver the homes at Spon End. The Hill Group prides itself on high-quality, energy-efficient homes and best-in-class regeneration with a true focus on people and communities. We’re looking forward to working with Citizen and residents to create much-needed new homes where people will love to live for generations to come.”
