100 jobs set to be created with approval of Coventry care home

A new care home for adults with complex needs in Coventry has received approval to move forward and is set to create 100 jobs in the area.

The 38-bed facility will be constructed on the site of the former St Nicholas Church in Radford, which has been derelict for over a decade.

Deeley Construction, based in Coventry, will carry out the development for UK care provider Exemplar Health Care.

Preliminary work, including the demolition of the church, is set to begin soon, with construction of the new care home scheduled to start by the end of the year.

The St Nicholas Church has been closed due to health and safety concerns, but features such as the bells, cross and a carved plaque of St Nicholas in Portland stone will be preserved for reuse.

The cross will be placed on a plinth on-site, while the bells will be repurposed by the diocese.

Designed by Watson Batty Architects, the three-storey care home will incorporate a modern interpretation of the Twentyman architectural style.

Features will include a single-storey entrance with a canopy and materials that echo the existing church’s design.

Each floor will support nursing care and include dining rooms, quiet rooms, lounge areas, a residential therapy room and an entrance hub with meeting spaces for visiting family members.

Plans also include a new sensory garden, providing a communal space for residents.

The development will feature a 31-space car park with three electric vehicle charging points, as well as six new parking spaces for the parish hall, which will remain open during construction.

Exemplar Health Care operates over 40 care homes across the UK and is known for delivering high-quality outcomes for residents by collaborating with NHS commissioners and social care funders.

Charlotte Lloyd, director of commissioning at Exemplar Health Care, said: “We’re looking forward to working with Deeley Construction on yet another joint project, which will make a huge difference to the lives of adults with complex care needs.

“Our new home will greatly improve the experience of people in the local area receiving care and support. People will be able to live closer to friends and family in a purpose-built, community-centric care home whilst being supported by a holistic care and nursing team that can help them continue to engage in society and progress their personal goals.

“On top of this, we are pleased to be creating 100 new jobs in Radford, and we encourage anyone searching for a rewarding career and inspiring, passionate colleagues to apply.”
