Deloitte Birmingham intake

Deloitte Midlands has welcomed almost 90 new people to its award-winning graduate, BrightStart apprenticeship and industrial placement programmes across its Birmingham and Nottingham practices.

Seventy-five people joined the Birmingham practice and will take up placements across audit & assurance, tax, risk advisory and enabling functions.

Juliet Halfhead, Deloitte Midlands practice senior partner, says: “We’re delighted to welcome the graduates, apprentices and those who have arrived at the firm on a work placement as they start their careers at Deloitte.

“I am passionate about supporting our people to fulfil their potential, and we should not underestimate the positive impact each individual can make to our clients and communities by bringing a new perspective, fresh approach and innovative solutions.

“As a graduate who joined Deloitte early on in my own career, I am excited to see each build their skills, take advantage of the great opportunities available to them and have a support network which will help them adapt to the ever-changing world of work.”

Over 1,200 people joined Deloitte’s early careers programmes over the past few months across its UK offices.

The firm’s graduate programme ranked number four in the latest Times Top 100 Graduate Employer and Deloitte was ranked in this year’s Top 100 Apprenticeship Employers list.

Emma Deering, Georgina Hughes, Karen Clarke, Kate Lawson

A Shropshire law firm has appointed four new partners – including one who started out as an office secretary nearly 30 years ago.

Lanyon Bowdler has announced that four senior members of staff have been promoted to partners – Karen Clarke, Kate Lawson, Emma Deering and Georgina Hughes.

Karen Clarke, of the personal injury team in Telford, joined Lanyon Bowdler as a secretary in 1996, before training as a lawyer so she could do more to help the clients she worked with.

Kate Lawson is a private client solicitor based in the Shrewsbury office, who joined Lanyon Bowdler when the firm merged with Longueville Gittins in Oswestry back in 2010.

Georgina Hughes is based in the private client team in Hereford, qualifying as a solicitor nearly 20 years ago and working in Gloucestershire prior to joining Lanyon Bowdler in 2022.

Completing the appointments is Emma Deering, a chartered legal executive in the Conwy office, who works with clients across North Wales. Emma joined Lanyon Bowdler in 2021 to lead the private client team in Conwy, the firm having opened its office there in 2019.

Brian Evans, Lanyon Bowdler’s managing partner, said: “I am really pleased to announce these additions to the firm’s partnership,” he said. “Each of them has had a different journey through their legal careers with a range of experiences which are hugely valuable to the firm and our clients.

“We are proud of our track record of providing excellent opportunities for staff to move up through the ranks to progress their careers with the firm.

“A great example of that is Karen Clarke, who is now a partner of the firm which she joined as a secretary in the mid 1990s – a real testament to her hard work and dedication to her clients.

“My congratulations go to each of our new partners, and I wish them continued success in their legal careers.”

Lanyon Bowdler has offices in Shrewsbury, Telford, Oswestry, Hereford, Ludlow, Bromyard and Conwy, assisting businesses and individuals with a wide range of legal services.

Lavinia Tudora

Warrens Hall care home, part of the growing Superior Care (Midlands) Group, in Oldbury has announced the appointment of Lavinia Tudora as its new home manager.

Lavinia brings a wealth of experience and a strong commitment to excellence in care, having worked in the sector since 2014.

A qualified nurse, Lavinia joined Superior Care in 2020 as clinical lead at neighbouring care home Newbury Manor. Here she quickly demonstrated her leadership skills and was promoted to deputy manager.

Now, taking the helm at Warrens Hall, Lavinia continues her professional journey with a company she loves and respects for its focus on developing talent from within.

Speaking about her new role, Lavinia said: “I’m thrilled to take on this new challenge and work closely with the wonderful team.

“Career opportunities at Superior Care are second to none and the company’s commitment to nurturing growth from its workforce is something I really value and know that other staff do too.

“I look forward to collaborating with members of my team and residents’ families to provide the highest standards of care and help people find the right care home for their family members. My door is always open for anyone who needs support or a listening ear.”

Lavinia’s appointment underscores Superior Care’s mission and vision to recognise outstanding talent as well as being small enough to care about each resident’s unique needs, whilst at the same time being big enough to innovate in an industry undergoing tremendous change.
