Affordable housing project advances as site is acquired

Tamworth masterplan

Platform Housing Group has secured the site for a major affordable housing development near Tamworth, marking the next set in the development.

In October, outline planning permission for 210 homes on land north of Browns Lane was granted to land promotion specialists Summix.

The planning permission followed an independent planning inspector’s decision to overturn refusals from Lichfield District Council and Tamworth Borough Council.

Covering 7.47 hectares, the development will offer a range of affordable housing options, including properties for first-time buyers, older residents and those in need of affordable rentals, alongside shared ownership opportunities.

The plan includes extensive green space, with 58% of the site dedicated to accessible outdoor areas, green corridors, and children’s play spaces.

Stuart Black, development director at Summix said: “Affordable housing in the area is very much needed and these plans will provide high-quality properties for local people to affordably rent and also to buy, through shared ownership. We are very excited to partner with Platform Housing Group who have a strong track record of delivering and managing affordable housing development.”

Kate Ellison, director of land, partnerships and business development at Platform Housing
Group said: “Platform is pleased to have secured this site, and we are excited that we’ll be able to deliver this significant number of affordable homes to the area. It’s a great example of our
approach to land-led development which brings many benefits to our customers and the communities we build. I want to thank all parties for their work and dedication in helping us achieve this agreement which will give many families the essential foundations that come with having a quality, sustainable place to call home.”
