Launching a medical negligence practice demonstrates our commitment to growth where we see genuine need and opportunity. Mandy’s expertise and leadership will be pivotal in establishing our Birmingham office as a go-to firm in the region for these complex and sensitive cases.”

Luckman said: “I am thrilled to be joining Fieldfisher and launching a new team dedicated to supporting clients across the Midlands. My focus has always been on delivering expert legal advice with empathy and I’m excited to build a team that reflects these values.

“With Marcos by my side, I’m confident we can establish a service that supports clients through every stage of their journey.”

Kay Desai and Mark Elder

Law firm TLT has appointed experienced lawyer Kay Desai as partner, bolstering its real estate practice and expanding its Birmingham office.

Desai joins TLT from Gowling WLG, where she advised on a large number of significant and complex commercial real estate deals. She is experienced across a range of sectors including retail and leisure and specialises in large corporate occupier transactions including acquisitions, disposals and estate management of corporate spaces, from offices to warehouses, manufacturing plants to retail and leisure accommodation and everything in between.

Desai’s experience has included acting for a wide range of UK and international businesses. Some of her recent work has included advising Young & Co’s Brewery PLC on the disposal of its tenanted pub estate comprising 53 pubs; acting for a major online furniture retailer in connection with acquiring a number of developed and pre-developed warehouses with rents in excess of £3 million; advising on the sale of a manufacturing plant for an international plant-based dairy company; and acquiring new head office premises for The Net-a-Porter Group Limited.

At TLT, Desai will be supporting the development of the firm’s real estate practice in Birmingham and also working closely with the firm’s national real estate team.

Mark Elder, partner and head of location for Birmingham said: “2024 saw our Birmingham office go from strength-to-strength, with our head count more than doubling in 12 months and we are not stopping there. Kay’s appointment reflects our growth ambitions with much more forecast for 2025. Kay is a strong addition to our team and will play a valuable part in driving the growth of our real estate practice in Birmingham. We’re delighted to have her onboard.”

Desai said: “The commercial real estate landscape in the UK is ever evolving, shaped by socio-economic shifts and technological advancements. The adoption of flexible working patterns, the rise in ‘green’ building practices and diversification of retail spaces are some of the trends shaping an increasingly volatile market.

“TLT’s real estate practice has the expertise and know-how to support clients navigate these challenges that will permeate the market in 2025 and beyond. I’m excited to join TLT’s Birmingham office – it’s been some time since the city has seen a new market entrant with the firm’s energy and ambition and I’m looking forward to being part of that journey.”
