Brownfield land programme launched by new partnership

A new partnership focused on brownfield land is aiming to unlock tens of thousands of acres for development.

Keon Homes and consultancy Foster, Green+Brown (FG+B) launched ‘Brownfield Reborn’, to work with clients to asses sites and their technical considerations, historic land uses and planning overviews.

This will then be used to outline the most appropriate uses, whether for residential purposes through affordable homes, care homes, retirement schemes, open market housing or repurposing for commercial use.

The service will also give firms and individuals the opportunity to request the potential value for their sites.

Keon Homes, recently announced it is building out the stalled £35m Phase 3 Port Loop development in Birmingham.

It’s now on site delivering 124 units in partnership with sister company Cameron Homes and housing association Midland Heart.

Hear from Richard Williams, managing director of Keon Homes and Joe Reeves, executive director of finance & growth at Midland Heart on its partnership that restarted the stalled scheme, after two previous developers collapsed into administration.

Richard Williams, managing director of Keon Homes said: “‘Brownfield First’ has long been the mantra of political parties, however, we all know it is not as easy as just inserting it into a manifesto.

“There tends to be heavy reclamation costs to get the land fit for purpose, owners tend to sit on sites as they don’t understand the true value of them and developers often prefer the easier routes of grey or indeed green belt.

“Well, this could all be about to change with the introduction of our tailored service that helps landowners maximise their brownfield opportunity. “

Foster, Green+Brown is using its expertise in residential development consultancy and site sourcing to accelerate the progress of initial reports.

Founder Andy Rhoades said: “Both partners are very sensitive to the legacy of sites and the local area, with Keon Homes’ award-winning development in Cambridge Street the perfect example of how we can marry the needs of now whilst retaining the traditions of the Past.

“If you are a factory owner looking to relocate to more modern premises, a founder who has seen his business run its course, or a family that are sitting on a piece of brownfield land left to them, please contact one of our experts for an initial conversation. Together, we can regenerate brownfield sites first.”
