Almost half of West Midlands innovators stuck, NatWest warns

The West Midlands is home to England's biggest untapped innovation opportunity, according to new NatWest research.

The analysis, published in NatWest's "From Innovation to Impact" report, found 47.4% of the region's grant-backed businesses remain active and trading but have yet to secure follow-on investment, achieve an exit or demonstrate recognised scale-up growth.

That's the highest proportion of any major English region, against a UK average of 38.1%.
