100 homes recommended for approval at former E.ON Coventry HQ despite resident pushback
Plans to replace E.ON’s former UK headquarters in Coventry with up to 100 homes are recommended for approval when Coventry City Council’s planning committee meets on Thursday 8 October, despite opposition from local residents.
Redford Developments acquired the 9.3-acre site at Westwood Business Park earlier this year and lodged outline plans, under application reference PL/2026/0000778/OUTM, for the demolition of the former headquarters. The scheme would include highways works and public open space, including a children’s play area.
E.ON had occupied the site since 1994 but relocated to new offices at Friargate in Coventry city centre last year.
A council officer’s report said: “The proposed development is considered to be acceptable in principle and will not result in any significant impact upon neighbour amenity, highway safety, ecology or infrastructure, subject to relevant conditions and contributions.”
Redford Developments appointed Stantec architects to draw up the outline plans, with Marrons acting as planning consultant. A public consultation for local residents took place in April.
Richard Mees, chief executive of Redford Developments, said when proposals were submitted: “This expansive, landmark office building is no longer required, with E.ON having moved into a brand-new building within Coventry city centre. This frees up a brownfield site located within a popular residential neighbourhood.
“The vacant Westwood Business Park site has the potential to help meet the demand from local families for energy-efficient new homes.”
