Poppleton & Appleby appointed administrator to seafood supplier

WEST Midland based Poppleton & Appleby has been appointed administrator of a Humberside food company.

Superior Seafoods in Grimsby is a long-established seafood supplier and its closure means the loss of 65 jobs.

The firm, which was established in 1972, has blamed the situation on tough trading conditions, increasing factory costs and dwindling fish stocks.

Matt Hardy, partner at Poppleton & Appleby, which has offices in Birmingham and Coventry, said: “Superior Seafoods has become a victim of rising costs and combined with the tough economic climate it is, unfortunately, no longer a sustainable business.

“We are now working with the directors to fully assess the situation and are looking to progress things as quickly and efficiently as possible.

“We are working closely with the local Jobcentre Plus to place as many of Superior Seafoods’ staff in other roles as possible and a number of local employers in the area have expressed an interest in taking on some of those who have lost their jobs.”
