Wedgwood wins Olympic tender

WWRD the owner of the iconic West Midlands Wedgwood brand has won a key supply contract for the 2012 Olympic Games.

The company has been nominated by The London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games (LOCOG) to produce commemorative and souvenir merchandise for the sporting event.

WWRD which along with Wedgwood owns Waterford Crystal, Wedgwood and Royal Doulton will be developing ranges of ceramic and crystal products for a broad retail market, which will include a number of limited edition pieces.

Many of the ceramic products will be produced at the Wedgwood plant in Stoke, Staffordshire and will go on sale later this year, the company says.

The company won the tender for the contract by applying via the CompeteFor website which is funded by Advantage West Midlands (AWM).

AWM’s Business Manager for the Games, Jim Johnston, said: “It is fantastic that Wedgwood has won this contract to supply the London  2012 Games.

“It is an iconic brand incorporating the best of British design and tradition.  It is also pleasing that the tender was won through CompeteFor – a single source of tenders from the London 2012 Games”.
