International Trade: ‘Think global’ to achieve growth

WEST Midlands businesses must look abroad if they are to expand and prosper, according to a leading tax advisor from RSM Tenon.

Steve Newman, director with accountants and business advisors RSM Tenon, said it was becoming increasingly more important for the region’s firms to look globally for their next client relationship.

“The UK has been a pivotal part of international trade for centuries. The West Midlands has been at the heart of this,” he said.

“It is ever more important for West Midlands-based businesses to look beyond domestic borders to international markets for expansion or exporting opportunities.

“Design and R&D are vital and growing features of the West Midlands economy and a huge pull for international investors.

“By ‘thinking globally’, businesses can improve productivity, achieve higher levels of growth not possible domestically, achieve economies of scale…and increase market potential.”

RSM Tenon held a roundtable on international trade, chaired by TheBusinessDesk.com’s West Midlands editor Marc Reeves, and attended by foreign trade experts.

Attendees urged West Midlands businesses to show more pride in their products when to boost overseas business.
