Tarmac secures £40m highways win

WOLVERHAMPTON-based Tarmac has secured a Highways Agency maintenance contract worth approximately £40m.
The eight-year contract, awarded by main contractor Road Management Services, involves the delivery of all aspects of highway maintenance and management on a project in Yorkshire.
It includes network management, routine and cyclical maintenance, as well as the design and construction of improvement schemes, covering approximately 52km of the A1(M) from Darrington to Dishforth.
As an operation and maintenance contract, the project is a first of its kind for Tarmac.
It will be working with global professional technical services consultancy, AECOM, to design, plann, engineer and manage the road among other services.
Director of national contracting Andy Rowley said: “This achievement underlines our proven experience and strong previous track record of delivering services on Britain’s motorway network.
“Our partnership with AECOM will focus on the operation and maintenance of the motorway, seeing us designing improvement schemes and carrying out inspections of the highway.”
