Hilton Hotels announces Wolverhampton development

HILTON Hotels has announced it is to open a £15 million development in Wolverhampton city centre.
The deal to develop a 130-bedroom hotel scheme on Penn Road Island – the first phase of development agreed in the city’s Western Quarter – came after negotiations between Wolverhampton Development Company and the hotel chain.
Solihull-based Richard Dickson Property Consultancy and Wragges acted as advisors to WDC on the deal, which will see the demolition of the existing Fox Hotel. The scheme will be delivered under the Hampton by Hilton brand and developed by Cordwell, with work anticipated to start on site in spring 2011 and due to complete the following year.
Mr Stephen Catchpole, chief executive of WDC said it was a coup for the city to attract a brand such as Hilton.
“The hard work of WDC and our partners has paid off, ” he added.
Will Evans, WDC’s development director, who led the team, said he was confident the hotel deal, combined with other developements in the city such as phase 1 of the interchange will act as a strong stimulus for others in the quarter.
“(They) are clear signals to the market that positive change is taking place in Wolverhampton,” he added.
He was backed by Mr Steve Boyes, director of regeneration and environment for Wolverhampton City Council.
“Wolverhampton Council is keen to do all that it can to attract investment to our city,” he said. “This announcement confirms that developers and brands see Wolverhampton as an enabling and welcoming city which provides a clear commercial benefit.”
