Official opening set for new restaurant quarter

A NEW 20,000 sq ft restaurant quarter outside Birmingham’s Bullring shopping centre will be officially unveiled next month.
The Spiceal Street project will comprise three new restaurants alongside landscaping and public art in St Martin’s Square.
The project is being led by property investor Hammerson, which co-owns the Bullring, and includes two new entrants to Birmingham’s restaurant scene.
Thai chain ChaoBaby is opening a new 4,250 sq ft while Browns Bar and Brasserie has taken a 4,068 sq ft unit.
Also unveiling its new restaurant is Birmingham-founded Handmade Burger Co. which has taken a 3,906 sq ft.
The trio joins existing tenants Jamie Oliver’s Italian, Pizza Hut, Wagamama, Mount Fuji and Nando’s to form a new eight-strong restaurant hub.
Spiceal Street was the home of Birmingham’s market and hospitality trade during the 1700s and the grand openings will be accompanied by live arts performances on November 24. Browns will open a day later.
Bullring general manager Tim Walley said: “We’re pleased to announce the opening date for Spiceal Street and we’re sure our visitors are too.
“As a centre we’re famed for our strong fashion offering and with the addition of Spiceal Street we’re confident that we can say the same about our catering offer too.”
