Surveyors in rowing challenge for charity

SURVEYORS from firms across Birmingham took part in a rowing challenge to raise money for charity.

The event was part of a series of fundraising challenges taking place around the country by RICS matrics, the institution’s junior organisation.

The Birmingham task saw a team of ten surveyors from the city’s leading surveying practices, Jones Lang LaSalle, CB Richard Ellis, Phoenix Beard, King Sturge, DTZ and Savills, take part in a grueling 120km rowing challenge, held at Edmunds Bar.

Rowing in one minute sprints on a machine over the course of seven hours, the team received a motivational message from World Champion sculler Alan Campbell, who warned them that the exercise would hurt but the effort was for a worthy cause.

The Birmingham team were joined in their task by RICS matrics national chairman Mark Humphries, who was travelling around the UK visiting every RICS region.

On completing the Birmingham leg of his journey, Mr Humphries said: “The Birmingham team’s rowing marathon was great fun, but completely exhausting and certainly presented a tough physical test for me.

“Ultimately though, it was all about helping to raise funds for two exceptionally worthy charities, LionHeart (the RICS’s benevolent fund) and The Stroke Association.”

The rowing challenge helped to swell the fundraising to the tune of £1,000.

Indi Sidhu, of CB Richard Ellis, RICS matrics Birmingham vice-chair, said: “It was great to be able to help Mark with his fundraising, and I think the property professionals of Birmingham can be very proud of their colleagues.”
