First drive-thru dry cleaners opens in Burton-upon-Trent

JOHNSON Cleaners, the national dry cleaning business, has launched the country’s first drive-through dry cleaners.
The Cheshire company, part of ther listed Johnson Service Group, has invested £130,000 in the new concept store in Burton-upon-Trent.
The drive-through concept has proved popular in US but has never been tried in the UK market before – was launched on Saturday – and means customers can drop off and collect their dry cleaning and laundry without leaving their car.
It will be open 24-hours a day, every day, via a drop box facility which will allow a secure drop-off and pick-up system for customers who are unable to visit during regular opening hours.
Paul Ogle, managing director of Johnson Cleaners, which has more than 460 shops nationwide said: “The concept has been developed as a result of wider market research over in the US, where ‘drive-thru’ dry cleaners are commonplace and operate as part of a very successful business model.
“We know that a lot of people are time poor, especially those with families and who work shifts, and we want to make dry cleaning, laundry, and ironing as convenient as possible for them. As an investment it absolutely makes sense for us and we’re confident that customers will reap the benefits.”
