Ultra recruits ex-Rear Admiral to lead marketing charge

DEFENCE supplier Ultra Electronics has appointed former Rear Admiral Mark Anderson as its new group marketing director designate.
The announcement comes after Andy Hamment informed Ultra’s board of his intention to retire at the end of March after more than 23 years with the group, it said today.
Mr Anderson joined Ultra, which has operations in Birmingham and Rugeley, in May as strategy director (sonar and undersea systems) in the group’s tactical and sonar systems division.
Prior to joining the plc, he served for 37 years in the Royal Navy and retired in the rank of Rear Admiral.
He began his career in engineering and subsequently moved on to sea command and led the nuclear submarine HMS Talent and subsequently the Type 23 Frigate HMS Marlborough.
Mr Anderson was also involved in two defence reviews, served in logistics and acquisition posts and was the Chief of Defence Staff’s liaison officer to the US Chairman of the joint chiefs.
Chief executive Rakesh Sharma said: “Mark’s knowledge of international military affairs and broad range of experience in strategic reviews and defence procurement has already proven valuable to the group during his time at Ultra.
“The board would like to thank Andy who has been an outstanding group marketing director and wish him well for the future.”
