Buyer sought after city nightclub slips into administration

A GAY nightclub in Birmingham has gone into administration after experiencing “a period of cash flow difficulties”.

The Nightingale Club, near the Hippodrome Theatre, is still trading and under the control of Ryan Grant, from the Birmingham office of Zolfo Cooper, and his Manchester-based colleagues Simon Wilson and Anne O’Keefe.

The venue was established 40 years ago and employs 50 staff.

Zolfo Cooper declined to comment on speculation a similar fate awaited Birmingham Mardi Gras, a subsidiary of Nightingale Club, which operates the Angel Bar in the same vicinity.

A statement from Zolfo Cooper said: “The company has been experiencing a period of cash flow difficulties, which combined with the difficult market conditions in this sector has unfortunately led to the need for this appointment.

“Following the appointment, the joint administrators are continuing to trade the business over the coming weeks, with a view to selling it as a going concern as soon as possible.”

Mr Grant added: “This is a well established business with a loyal customer base and we are confident of finding a purchaser quickly.

“We are considering all possible options for the future of the business and we would welcome enquiries from any interested parties.

“In the meantime, the nightclub will continue to trade as normal. We would like to thank staff for their continued professionalism and patience during this process.”
