Engineering firm launches new military generators

SUTTON COLDFIELD engineering firm Cubewano has launched a new range of products aimed at the military portable power generation market.

Building on its core engine technology, the new range of generators are light enough to be carried into theatre by just one person.

The new range will run on kerosene, which is the preferred fuel of the most militaries worldwide, as it does not combust upon contact with a naked flame.

The ‘Hornet’ generators were light enough to be carried by one person and would produce enough power for 13 laptops or other equipment such lighting and radio gear, the firm said.

Cubewano chief executive Craig Fletcher said: “We initially developed an engine for use in unmanned air vehicles, which involved an exceptional power to weight ratio – producing over one horsepower per pound and which would run on almost any type of fuel.

“We then began to examine other possible uses this power source could have.

“A platoon currently carries up to 11 battery types weighing up to 436lb for a 72 hour mission, as current generators running on kerosene are too heavy for one person to carry.

“Developing a power generation solution around our small and efficient heavy fuel rotary engines for the military market was a logical step.”
