San Carlo confirms new Birmingham restaurant

BIRMINGHAM-based restaurant chain San Carlo Group has confirmed plans to invest £2.5m in a new Venetian-style tapas bar in the city.

Fumo is scheduled to open in April adjacent to the group’s existing Italian restaurant in Temple Street.

The new bar, which follows the group’s Cicchetti Bar and Restaurant in Manchester, will feature a large bar serving wines, beers and innovative cocktails with live music on Friday and Saturday nights.

The building in Waterloo Street is being refurbished and the scheme is part of the group’s international expansion plan, which has seen it open its second Signor Sassi branded restaurant in Kuwait and a third in Beirut. A fourth Signor Sassi is scheduled to open in Bangkok in May.

The group is also looking to China and Singapore as potential new locations.

In addition to Birmingham and Manchester, San Carlo has restaurants in Leicester, Bristol, Liverpool and Leeds.
