St John’s Hotel serves up tasty treats for Acorns

THE St John’s Hotel in Solihull is launching its first family Sunday lunch menu with a special fundraiser for Acorns Children’s Hospice.

The four-star hotel on Warwick Road has nominated the charity, which cares for life-limited children and young people, for the forthcoming months and is kick-starting its fundraising efforts by donating £5 for every three-course lunch sold on Sunday, March 11, 2012, to the charity.

It is the first time St John’s has launched a traditional Sunday lunch menu and Tony Hill, general manager said he hoped the lunches would be well supported.

Acorns does not charge families for its services but does rely on donations for the majority of the £8m plus income needed to provide care and support to more than 600 children and families every year.

Mr Hill said: “Acorns does incredible work for life-limited children and their families across the West Midlands and we are keen to do our bit to help.”

Saffron spices up fundraising for Acorns

SAFFRON restaurant in Colmore Row, Birmingham has chosen Acorns Children’s Hospice as its nominated charity for this year and is hosting a champagne reception on March 20 to kick off the fundraising.

Saffron co-owner Limon Rahman said: “Our chef patron Sudha, managing director Momin and myself all have small children, so being able to help the hospice and families in any way during such a stressful time is very important to us. We’ve been a supporter of Acorns for a number of years now and with our new restaurant in Colmore Row we want to show our commitment to  the local community. ”

Leonie Hudson, community fundraising manager for Acorns, said: “We rely on voluntary income for the majority of the £8m plus needed to run our services every year, so support such as this is essential to being able to continue to provide care.

“I’m sure the event will be a huge success and, on behalf of everyone at Acorns, would like to thank everyone at Saffron for their efforts.”

Small change makes a big difference for Metropole guests

Hilton MetropoleGUESTS staying at Hilton Birmingham Metropole donated their small change to help support disadvantaged children as part of Hilton in the Community Foundation’s annual fundraising campaign in the UK.

Patrick Stapleton, General Manager of Hilton Birmingham Metropole, said: “This is a great campaign and one that I am grateful to our generous guests for supporting us once again. The idea is wonderful in its simplicity and the results show that small change really can add up to make a real difference to disadvantaged children’s lives through Hilton in the Community Foundation.”

Hilton in the Community Foundation has supported children in Birmingham since 2000 with grants to a number of charities including The Friends of The Pines Association and Cyclists Fighting Cancer.

All proceeds raised from the campaign in the West Midlands will be used to support disadvantaged children through Hilton in the Community Foundation’s grants programme.  Money raised in the UK will be ring-fenced for charities specifically working to improve the education of vulnerable young people, including those with disabilities or those who are homeless.
