Some 1,500 staff are based at Britannia headquarters in Leek, many of them working in back office functions.
A spokeswoman said the bank is working with trade unions. Staff who are affected will be offered redeployment.
“We will be working hard with impacted colleagues to offer ongoing support which includes redeployment options within the bank and its parent company The Co-operative Group,” the spokeswoman added.
